Pelican Air Services was founded by Peter Farquhar in 2001 at the request of the Bazaruto Archipelago lodges who at that time had experienced a considerable lack of airline connectivity between Johannesburg and Vilanculos.
67,000 passengers later Pelican has grown from 5 seats twice a week to 38 seats 7 days a week and has added the additional benefit of providing scheduled services between Kruger Mpumalanga Airport and Vilanculos to encourage bush / beach holiday packages.
With the above success the lodges in the Inhambane area also requested Pelican to provide a service and this starts on 4 September 2007 with four flights per week from both Johannesburg and KMIA.
Peter recently attained the age of 65 and with his desire to bring fresh young blood into the organisation, Federal Air acquired the shareholding and combining their expertise with the licenses held by Pelican, we see a great sustainable future in the airline.
Credit for this for the success of Pelican must also be attributed to the dedicated staff who have assisted in making Pelican Air Services what it is today.
