About
Kingdom Of Swaziland's Big Game Parks
HLANE ROYAL NATIONAL PARK Hlane is Swaziland's largest protected area and is found in the east, approximately forty minutes from Manzini. Almost totally fl at in character, the land that Hlane now occupies was famed in times gone by for its diversity of wildlife and huge herds of game. That reputation is fast returning as species after species returns to this wide open area.
MLILWANE WILDLIFE SANCTUARY Mlilwane is situated in a rapidly urbanising area, south of the Swazi capital of Mbabane, bordering on the popular tourism area of Ezulwini on its east, as well as Lobamba. To the south it provides a backdrop to the rural mixed farming area of Malkerns with its home industries and growing tourism focus, while the huge Usutu Forest stretches away from the reserve in the west. Reilly’s Rock is a lodge situated on the Mlilwane Hill within the tranquil safety of Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, approximately 3 km from the Rest Camp and 1,5 km from the Sangweni Gate. The lodge is surrounded by beautiful natural gardens and terraced lawns with a unique panoramic view of the Ezulwini Valley. There is 24 hour access to the Sanctuary.
MKHAYA GAME RESERVE Mkhaya is situated in the south-east of Swaziland in the heart of the lowveld. The reserve comprises of acacia-dominated thornveld in the south and broadleaf sandveld in the north. The reserve is criss-crossed with dry river beds and dotted with waterholes. The climax vegetation of ancient leadwoods, knobthorns and tambutis is particularly valuable from conservation as well as aesthetic perspectives. The camp, which is known as "Stone Camp", due to the dolerite rocks used in constructing the various structures, is essentially a bushcamp with semi-open sided thatched stone cottages with full services. |
