Mozambique Arguably the best known facet of Mozambique is its coastal and marine environment. The vast coral reefs off-shore and those surrounding the nearby islands, are predominantly unspoilt and teeming with marine life. All along the coast you’ll find recognized dive sites; from Ponta de Oura in the extreme south, to the Bazaruto Archipelago east of Vilankulos. The Bazaruto archipelago consists of five sun-drenched tropical islands, some of which have awe-inspiring dunes, flamingo lakes and gorgeous beaches. On the two largest isles – Bazaruto and Benguerra – there are top-notch seaside lodges which beckon honeymooners, beach holidaymakers, watersports enthusiasts and eco-tourists alike.
Back on mainland Mozambique there are a few places well worth visiting. Culture enthusiasts should not miss Inhambane, one of the oldest urban settlements in sub-Saharan Africa. Here, the architecture presents a visual feast, particularly in the town center. Not far from Imhambane is yet another incomparably beautiful beach area – Barra Reef, which has comfortable bungalow accommodation and an excellent restaurant.
Mozambique is an exotic country and it is worth a visit to Maputo. This capital city, with wide, café crammed pavements, shoe-shiners, colonial architecture and azure bays is vibrant with noise and colour and boasts legendary nightlife.
