Knysna

Knysna is set amongst lush forests and the shores of the lagoon, which beckons both the adventurous and the environmentally aware visitor to participate in a total eco-experience. The Knysna Estuary or Lagoon is a protected marine reserve and is one of the few places along the coast and in the world that supports an oyster hatchery, which is reputedly among the tastiest in the world.

Knysna Heads

The two great sandstone cliffs guarding the mouth of the lagoon are famously known as the Knysna Heads. A lookout has been erected on the Eastern Head and the Western Head is a privately owned nature reserve – Featherbed Bay.

Knysna Forest

The spectacular Knysna Forest, which is vast and extremely dense in places making it impenetrable, is the largest indigenous forest in South Africa and was once home to the great herds of Knysna Elephant of which it is believed that only one lonely cow remains today.
