Overberg Nestling between Sir Lowry’s Pass and the Langeberg mountains lies the Overberg - a spectacle of pure beauty. Its rugged coastline, a whale-spotting Mecca, curves past the southern most tip of the African Continent at Cape Agulhas. Rolling wheat-fields, blooming orchards, verdant vineyards and wild mountain flora present a palette of color. A mere 127 km from Cape Town, in the heart of the Whale Route, lies the coastal town of Hermanus which offers the best land based whale-watching in the world and home to the world’s only Whale Crier who signals the location of whales by blowing into a horn made from kelp (sea-weed).
Whale Watching Walker Bay is the ideal spot to view Southern Right Whales and their new born calfs. Whales can be spotted all along this coastline from about June to November while Hermanus hosts the annual Whale Festival in August.
Cape Agulhas Situated at the tip of Africa is L’ Agulhas, the southern most town in Africa. The lighthouse offers panoramic views of the Atlantic and Indian Ocean’s meeting point.
Coastal Route Traveling along the coast from or to Cape Town, this scenic route is highly recommended. En-route stop and enjoy little villages and bays like Hangklip, Betty’s Bay, Stanford, De Kelders, Gansbaai, Arniston & Struisbaai.
